The reality of starting a new year is very different from what everyone pretends and says that they’ll do.

With the turn of a calendar page, we are now forced into thinking and acting as if everything will be different and favorable in 2020. All you have to do is make some resolutions and you’ll be unstoppable. You feel the pressure that you must do something. If you’re not planning to wake up at 5:30 a.m., hit the gym and crush it at work, then you must be a loser. It’s exhausting! January 1 is just another day on the calendar. There is nothing magical about it. It’s like Valentine’s Day— it makes more people feel badly about themselves than good.

Bold predictions are made by people who don’t have a clue. Everyone claims that they know what will happen in their field of expertise in 2020. These people have no accountability and are almost always wrong.

Let’s avoid following the herd mentality. Here’s a more reasonable and rational way to look at the New Year.  If you are happy with your life and career, that’s great! There may not be any need for you to enact radical changes due to societal peer pressure. If you feel that you need to improve, you’ve probably noted what you lack and have already begun working on what to change. In this case, keep up the good work!

No one tells you the truth that it’s actually harder in the beginning of a New Year. We’ve collectively hyped up our hopes that this year will be better than the last. It’s unfair that societal pressures make us feel that, on an arbitrary date, we must make something positive happen. Our stress levels increase as we force ourselves to succeed.
